OHS Management is a key priority of Arkfield in Australia. Arkfield Technical Services operates a Safety Management System in compliance with AS/NZS4801 and all relevant State and Territory requirements. Arkfield has been in the process of building and improving on the existing OH&S Management System AS/NZS 4801:2001.
Targets have been developed using positive performance indicators such as effectiveness of OH&S and performance against training and site inspection plans. The business also uses LTIFR (Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate) and ASR (Accident Severity) rate as indicators across all Arkfield projects.
Primary responsibility for OH&S at an operational level rests with the Branch Manager, while the Project Manager is accountable for OH&S in the Projects environment. OH&S support is currently provided on a consultative basis by a specialist OH&S firm, who helps with strategic direction and ensures the OHS Management System is in compliance with regulatory requirements, AS/NZS 4801 and with Arkfield strategies.
The role of the OH&S Manager is to provide support, which includes direct assistance on legal and technical matters, training, investigation of incidents, development of OH&S management plans, planned safety observations, reporting of safety performance and auditing against company process and AS4801 requirements.
Workers compensation and injury management issues are administered by OH&S Manager who is overall responsible for the scheme.
